The poverty rate in B.C. is among the worst in Canada. Too many people are struggling to make ends meet, earn a living wage, or find and keep affordable housing. Too many families are suffering without basic necessities, relying on food banks, going hungry or sending their children to school hungry.
Chilliwack Healthier Community has added Poverty Reduction to its areas of focus (the 2018 Strategic Action Plan has five main goals), and at Tuesday's event we will get an overview of poverty reduction work happening here and in neighbouring communities, as well as hear from the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction on their plans for a BC poverty reduction strategy, with a special greeting from the minister himself.
