Presented by the Opening Doors Task Team (ODTT), the Indigenous-focused Working Group of Chilliwack Healthier Community.
Keynote Speaker:
Brenda Wilson (traditional name Suu we hudda) presents “Community Collaboration & Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.”
This presentation will include a short film, Brenda’s reflections on community collaboration and MMIWG2S+ relationships, and an opportunity for a Q&A session. Her work supports ongoing efforts toward Truth and Reconciliation, creating safer communities and stronger pathways to healing.
Brenda is from Gitanmaxx, BC, and has been a strong advocate for missing and murdered Indigenous women and two-spirit people for over 30 years. Her journey began after the loss of her sister in 1994.
Brenda recently concluded her role as a Senior Manager of Community Engagement, BC North with the Indigenous Relations team at Rogers Communications to pursue other endeavours. Her collaborative work continues to stand as a testament to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls movement — most notably through the cell towers now established along Highway 16, enhancing safety and connectivity across the region.
This gathering will include a short film, Brenda’s reflections on community collaboration and MMIWG relationships, and an opportunity for a Q&A session.
Please note: this topic may bring out strong feelings and emotions for some. Cultural and wellness supports will be available, including cedar brushing and smudging.
Together, we honour stories of resilience and work toward a future of justice, healing, and safety.
Light refreshments will be provided.
Doors open at 8:30 a.m.
