The Opening Doors Task Team is honoured to welcome Brenda Wilson, whose traditional name is Suu we hudda, to our community for a morning of learning, reflection, and connection.
Brenda is from Gitanmaxx, BC, and has been a strong advocate for missing and murdered Indigenous women and two-spirit people for over 30 years. Her journey began after the loss of her sister in 1994.
Today, Brenda continues her advocacy as Senior Manager of Community Engagement, BC North Indigenous Collaboration at Rogers Communications, supporting efforts to expand emergency communications and safety infrastructure for Indigenous communities. Her work supports ongoing efforts toward Truth and Reconciliation, creating safer communities and stronger pathways to healing.
This gathering will include a short film, Brenda’s reflections on community collaboration and MMIWG relationships, and an opportunity for a Q&A session.
Cultural and wellness supports will be available, including cedar brushing ceremonies with:
Sadie McPhee (Indian Residential School Survivors Society)
Alexandra O’Donaghey (Indian Residential School Survivors Society)
Bill Bousquet (Métis Elder, Senior Indigenous Cultural Advisor, Fraser Health).
Together, we honour stories of resilience and work toward a future of justice, healing, and safety.
Light refreshments will be provided.
Doors open at 8:30 a.m.
